about running into myself
On her 26th birthday, Thea listens on as her thirty-something friends discuss their lives. The conversation leads her to realise she's been drifting through life and hasn't Grown Up. In addition, she can't tell where she ends and her mother begins. And so, she leaves behind her soul-constricting job and sets out on a more meaningful path to figure out who she is and what she really wants.
Along the way she discovers spirituality – in particular, Reiki – but lacking the confidence and belief required to cross the threshold into a new life, soon slides back into a mundane 9-5 existence.
Three years later a nightmare provides another wake-up call. With no game plan, she sells her house, leaves her job, and embarks on a relationship with an artist in Santa Fe (U.S.). Once there, she meets several mentors who introduce her to Jungian psychology, Greek mythology, BodySoul work, fairy tales, folk tales, and alchemical symbolism.
Soon after, overweight and unable to run more than a few metres at a time, she impulsively signs up for three marathons New York, Rome, and Athens, with the first only months away.
What unfolds over the next eighteen months is an incredible rite of passage into conscious womanhood, including an encounter with a Hollywood legend that helps opens her heart to compassion, an unintended trip to India that bridges the broken relationship with her body, and a life-changing experience in the heart of ancient Greece.
